June has written an illustrative story of the qualities that truly matter and what is more important in life. Janie meets Luke in an old ghost town where she is the historian for the project. She already feels she's not good enough and doesn't have what it takes as far as looks are concerned when she discovers from storekeeper Mildred that he was engaged to a beautiful contest winner and model. Though she's falling for him, she gives up on him thinking he will eventually get back with her once the project is over, and she doesn't want to end up broken hearted, but it's too late. He has captured her heart. On top of this, there is a ghost, or so they say, to contend with. Someone or something keeps snooping around her place and one night she discovers it inside with her. She has endured all the noises, the lights, the bells, and now she will find out if it is a ghost or a person, but will she live to tell about it? Luke nearly has a fatal accident, then he has another on a ladder while working on the project. Janie begins to want the project to end so she can leave, but that means she'll never see Luke again, or does it? Will either endure the project and what will happen if they do? Luke's former girl sends him a letter wanting him back. Will he forget all about Janie and rush back to her once the project is over as Janie assumes? She feels she can't compete with a beautiful, talented content winner and model. Well written short book that may be read in one day, a novella just as it says. You can visualize the old ghost town and the winding road through the mountains to get to and from it, the one Luke has to drive a loaded flatbed truck on and the one he loses control on because of a careless driver. Will Luke and Janie be able to complete this project alive, in one piece, and if they do, will it be good-bye forever between the two of them? If you enjoy old ghost towns, you will enjoy this tale. Restoration of the Heart pulled me in when I realized it was a ghost town!
I don't read many with tales of things happening from previous generations,
and this was done beautifully. The two lead characters are Christian's and
know there isn't any such thing as spirits to haunt...but what is it that's haunting
with strange noises and fabric from the past? June Foster weaves a story that
places the Lord first, and keeps readers in suspense with a lot of twists and
turns, and a fantastic ending!
Could not put it down. The ending is a twist that I did not expect. I read this book in two settings only because I fell asleep well past my bedtime.
Foster has a way of blending real social issues, Christianity and day to day life into enjoyable reading and Restoration of the Heart didn't disappoint. Love, domestic issues, history, restoring relationships and a bit of a mystery collide in this book without leaving the reader bogged down with any of it.
I liked the background of the book taking place in a ghost town - makes me want to visit it! A wonderful romance story with the entertwining of Christianity. Always love how June introduces to a new follower, how you can see the Spirit live in a Christian as they go through the different walks in life. Thank you, June, for sharing your gift with your readers!
