RENDER UNTO CEASAR by Author PAUL A. BARRON is an excellent read with Capitol Punishment as its' focus.

No matter where one stands on Capitol Punishment, this very short novel will stir your mind. The only problem for me is the shortness of a story that is so present, especially in the United States of America. Personally, I felt respect for Curtis, the condemmed man, yet I know not what crime merited his final punishment. Pastor Josef Hoff seemd to be a man of compassion, yet resigned to his job to bring some solace for the condemmed Curtis, as he has done fifty-six times before.

Texas is known as a State firmly convinced that Capitol Punishment serves as a deterent to violent crimes. The State is quick to carry out the sentence.

RENDER UNTO CEASAR is a very well written novel, I only wish Mr. Barron would have expounded on the subject further, taking his readers deeper into the story leading up to the climax.

In 1980, a close friend and mentor of mine, Detective Sergeant Jack R. Ohrberg, Robbery & Homicide Unit of the Indianapolis Police Department was brutally murdered attempting to serve arrest warrants on a vicious gang of armed robbers and killers. It was Thursday, 11 December 1980. Both his killers were tried, conviceted and sentenced to Death. In December of 1994, 14 years after Jack's murder, the first triggerman, all Appeals exhausted, became the last person to be executed in Indiana's Electric Chair. In July, 1996, the second killer became the first person to be executed by Lethal Injection in the State of Indiana. In many conversations Jack and I had, he was adamantly against the Death penalty. However, my belief is; his life cut short, his devoted wife, four children and one Grandchild, his colleagues and countless friends left to suffer, to mourn and try to find solace in celebrating his life, I think Jack may have looked down from his place by God, and smiled . . . he finally got the Execution of Justice he deserved.

RENDER UNTO CEASAR is a short, gripping story. It deserves five stars. I hope to read more by PAUL A. BARRON.

A remarkable story, well worth reading, both powerful and poignant. It is cleverly patterned with some very deft craft work and a surprise denouement. Barron can write!
When Gerry Cumiskey a journalist for the Correspondent, Texas Bureau Associated press is sent to the town of Mountain Springs Texas, he finds the town of little interest. But that is not why or what he is to report on. Just exactly why are a large crowd gathered in the town bearing banners such as Render Under Caesar?

This is a story that keeps the reader in suspense and mystery to what the story is actually about. Although I do admit I did guess the ending it did not disappoint me and I still enjoyed the story. This may only be a very short story, I read it in around fifteen minutes but it is a very well told story that does leave you wanting to find out more about the characters.
A beautifully written short story which captures the atmosphere of capital punishment superbly. Paul Barron is a major new writing talent on the scene. Well worth reading, no matter which side of the capital punishment debate you take. My only complaint is it was too short!
